Charlie O’Leary

Charles Allen (Papa C) O’Leary, 75, of Udall, Kan., died April 18, 2022, after a long battle with multiple health issues.

Charlie was born Nov. 11, 1946, to Virgil and Frances (Blatchford) O’Leary in Bixby, Okla. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1964. Papa C was a force of nature, determined to give his family the unconditional love he felt they deserved. His family meant more to his than anything else, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Mary Beth, Chad, Lisa, Kenny and most of all his precious wife Letha O’Leary. He also was passionate about his grandchildren and could often be found helping them with homework, attending their sporting games, painting or playing dolls.

Charlie and Letha Webb were married May 18, 1996, at Botanica Gardens in Wichita. They lived in Mulvane, Kan., for a short time, then moved to Goddard, Kan. After living there for a while, they bought 10 acres of land in Bentley, Kan. In 2014 they bought 10 acres of land and their present home in Udall.

Papa C served in the Navy. He also attended an auto mechanics school and later a truck-driving school in Wichita. He drove for Pueblo Chemical in Wichita, then Love Box, Inc., and Goddard Bus Transportation. In his earlier years he worked with a carnival for several years and for nine years in a foundry. He attended The Grove Church in Udall.

He is survived by his wife; daughter Mary (Kenny) Powell of Lenexa, Kan.; stepdaughter Lisa (Lorenzo) Woods of Andover; stepson Kenny (Shasta) Webb Jr. of Udall; a sister, Jean (Jean) Labrie of Thorntown, Ind.; brothers Virgil D. O’Leary of Cedar Vale, Kan., and Troy Allen of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 20 nieces and nephews; and a god-daughter, Amanda Crozzer. He was predeceased by his son Chad, his parents, his brother George Howard, and sisters Viola Botts and Martha Tatman.

Memorial contributions may be made to a fund for his wife via Heritage Funeral Home, 502 W. Central Ave., Andover, Kan. 67002, or directly to his widow. A celebration of life service was held April 30 at The Grove Church.
